Stocks Fly Fishery is a top class well run commercial fly fishery near Slaidburn deep in the beautiful Trough of Bowland in Lancashire. Stocks Reservoir is 350 acres and set in particularly scenic countryside. Stocks Fly Fishery has brilliant facilities with a good lodge, tackle shop and a large fleet of excellent boats.
The fly fishing at Stocks is superb and it's a great "top of the water" fishery but the fish respond well to most tactics. Its an ideal venue for both beginners and experienced fly fishers and fishes well both from the bank and from a boat, although we usually prefer the flexibility of boat fishing.
Stocks Fly Fishery is within easy reach of Leeds, Bradford, Manchester, Harrogate and York and with a direct rail link to Skipton from London Kings Cross makes it easy to visit even from the South of England. Visit Stocks Reservoir web site. Stocks Reservoir web site
Stocks Fly fishery is very well stocked with Rainbow, Blue and Brown trout which are in great condition and fight very hard indeed. There is always a chance of catching a very big fish at Stocks and many double figure fish are taken each season.
Trout fishing on Stocks Fly Fishery starts on the 1st of March and finishes at the end of November.
A rod between 9.5 and 10.5 feet for a 6 or 7 weight line (floating) is ideal for most situations when fishing at Stocks. Intermediate and sinking lines can also be essential equipment on days when fish are feeding deeper in the water. Life jackets are supplied and must be worn when boat fishing and a good drogue is also necessary.
The fish at Stocks can be caught on a wide range of different methods but fishing with buzzers, nymphs and in the warmer months dry flies will produce fish on most days. Finding the fish is essential so keep moving until you do and vary your methods and speed of retrieve.
Stocks is a large water and the fish can take some finding, fishing with a Go Fly Fishing UK guide will give you the best chance of locating and then catching them. All tackle including flies can be supplied or if you prefer you can bring your own. Our guides can provide a local railway station collection and return service and are available to give you a guided tour of the many historic sites, towns and cities and the many other attractions in the Yorkshire Dales.
If you would like to make your fly fishing part of a short break or holiday in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales we can advise on the best accommodation options. These include 4 star hotels, country house hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts each within a short distance from the fishing.

“Steve – A belated thank you for such an excellent, relaxed and enjoyable weekend fishing, Charlie and I both had a great time and I certainly learnt an awful lot. Charlie and I will certainly be back for more lessons next year.”

Extract from Stocks Fly Fishery fishing reports for 13th June 2010:
“Junior angler Charlie Brash (aged 14) was out on the water today with Steve Rhodes. They started out with a team of wets fished on a floater over Phil's Flats but quickly realised that dries were the order of the day. Charlie fished Daddies and Half Hogs to land a cracking total of twelve trout to be top rod from the boats today”.
